FAQ's

  • How often do I need to change my tampon?
    • It's generally recommended that you change your tampon every 4 to 8 hours, depending on your flow. You should never leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours, as this increases the risk of bacterial growth.

  • Can I wear a tampon overnight?
    • Yes, you can wear a tampon overnight, but it's important to choose the right absorbency and change it before going to bed and again first thing in the morning to reduce the risk of bacterial growth and the potential for toxic shock syndrome.

  • How do I insert a tampon?
    • Here are the basic steps:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
  2. Sit or stand in a comfortable position, such as with one foot on the toilet seat or edge of the bathtub.
  3. Hold the tampon with your thumb and middle finger at the base of the tampon.
  4. Use your other hand to spread your labia (the skin around your vaginal opening) to create a clear path for the tampon.
  5. Gently and slowly insert the tampon into your vagina, angling it towards your lower back.
  6. Push the tampon in until your fingers meet your body.
  7. Use your index finger to push the tampon further into your vagina until it feels comfortable.
  8. Make sure the string is hanging outside of your body so that you can easily remove the tampon later.

It may take a few tries to get the hang of inserting a tampon so don't get discouraged if it takes a bit of practice.

  • Are tampons safe to use?
    • Yes, tampons are generally considered safe to use when used correctly and changed regularly. However, like any menstrual product, tampons do carry a small risk of certain health concerns such as Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), a rare but serious bacterial infection that can occur if tampons are left in for too long.

  • Can I swim or exercise with a tampon?
    • Yes, you can swim or exercise with a tampon. In fact, tampons are a great menstrual product to use for physical activity as they allow for greater freedom of movement compared to other menstrual products like pads.

  • How do I dispose of used tampons?
    • After removing your tampon, wrap it in toilet paper or tissue and dispose of it in a waste bin. Do not flush tampons down the toilet as they can cause blockages in pipes and sewage systems.

  • Can I use a tampon if I'm a virgin?
    • Yes, you can use a tampon if you are a virgin. The hymen (a thin membrane that partially covers the vaginal opening) can be stretched or torn by a variety of activities, including inserting a tampon. However, if you are having difficulty inserting a tampon, you may want to start with a smaller size and use a water-based lubricant to make insertion easier.

  • How do I know if I've inserted the tampon correctly?
    • When you've inserted the tampon correctly, you shouldn't feel any discomfort or be able to feel the tampon inside of you.

  • What if I experience discomfort when using a tampon?

    • If you experience discomfort when using a tampon, there are a few things you can try:
  1. Make sure you're using the right size: If the tampon is too big, it can cause discomfort. If it's too small, it may not provide enough protection. Experiment with different sizes and absorbencies to find the one that works best for you.
  2. Use a water-based lubricant: If you're having trouble inserting the tampon, try using a water-based lubricant to make insertion easier.
  3. Check the position of the tampon: If the tampon is not inserted far enough into the vagina, it can cause discomfort. Make sure the tampon is positioned correctly by inserting it as far as it will go and adjusting it if necessary.
  4. Change the tampon regularly: If you leave a tampon in for too long, it can cause discomfort and increase the risk of bacterial growth and toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Change your tampon every 4-8 hours, even if it's not full.

If you continue to experience discomfort, or if you have any concerns about using tampons, it's a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider.
