Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a syndrome that causes hormonal imbalance in the female during the reproductive age. The phenomenon is common in most women which leads to irregularity in the menstrual cycle and the presence of excess male hormones, called androgens. You will find 1 out of 10 women suffering from PCOS in their childbearing age. Most teens and young females are affected due to the condition. There are mainly five reproductive hormones that control the reproductive system of women. An imbalance within these hormones leads to the disorder called Poly-Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or Poly-Cystic Ovary Disease (PCOD).
Until recent times, there is no exact clear picture regarding the causes of PCOS, but still a number of abnormalities have been documented in women with PCOS.
